What is collected automatically
Like any web server, the machines that host Etymon Yard record the requests they receive: the page asked for, the time, the referring page, the browser and operating system string, and the IP address the request came from. These logs exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse or scraping. They are kept for a limited period and then deleted.
Cookies
The site itself sets no tracking cookies and no login cookie for readers — there are no reader accounts. Cookies that you may receive come from advertising and analytics partners described below, and from your own browser or extensions.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Etymon Yard is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This site does not sell personal information for money. Because advertising cookies may be treated as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA, you can opt out using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link presented in the consent message, or by turning off personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings.
Children
The site is written for a general audience of learners and is not directed at children under thirteen. No personal information is knowingly collected from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information, write to the address above and it will be removed.
Analytics
Aggregate analytics, when enabled, are used to see which entries are read. Analytics data is not used to build advertising profiles by us, and it is not combined with the advertising cookies described above by this site.
